Student housing (CROUS)
The difference between the main and supplementary rounds, and how international students apply on the CROUS platform.
From the supplementary round, usually starting in summer of your arrival year
- University enrolment or admission certificate
- ID and residence document or visa
- Guarantor or Visale, and home insurance once accepted
- Initial rent deposit (as stated by CROUS)
1. Know which round applies to you
The main DSE round targets students meeting specific French social criteria; most international students wait for the supplementary round.
2. Create an account and search
Register on trouverunlogement.lescrous.fr and search by city, room type and budget; places fill on a rolling basis.
3. Apply and pay the deposit
Once you pick a place, submit the request and pay the reservation deposit; upload ID and financial documents per the platform's guide.
4. Sign the lease and arrange insurance
Sign the lease, get home insurance, and apply for housing aid if you qualify.
- Most international students don't meet the main-round DSE (student social file) conditions and must apply in the supplementary round, usually opening in summer, via trouverunlogement.lescrous.fr.
