Complementary health cover
Understand mutuelle and C2S, apply and keep your cover active.
Once health rights are open
- Health entitlement certificate
- Household and residence details
- Resources for the requested period and supporting evidence
- Any additional evidence requested by CPAM
1. Compare your options
Basic insurance does not cover every expense. A mutuelle is a complementary contract; C2S eligibility depends on residence and household resources.
2. Check C2S eligibility
Student status alone does not grant C2S. Check current resource limits and household rules, particularly if you are under 25.
3. Submit the application
Apply through Ameli or send the official form and evidence to CPAM. Ask CPAM about applying if your Carte Vitale is still pending.
4. Plan the renewal
Once accepted, note the end date. Unless automatic renewal applies, submit a new C2S application 2–4 months before rights expire.
- For private cover, read reimbursement limits and renewal terms; C2S renewal rules do not apply to every mutuelle.
