Student visa and financial means

Approximate amounts, required documents and how it links to the Campus France file

1. Required financial means

To get a student visa you must show you can cover your living and study costs in France. The base amount usually considered is about €615 per month plus tuition.

In large cities, especially Paris, the real cost of living is higher and student life is usually estimated at about €1,000 to €1,200 per month.

If you have a scholarship, its amount is subtracted from the total cost and your financial means is calculated on the difference. For example, if you have a €700 monthly scholarship, your means is calculated on the remaining €300–500.

2. Main student visa documents

Check the exact document list on the official embassy and Campus France websites, but in general it includes:

Valid passport

Completed visa application forms

University acceptance letter or pre-admission

Proof of financial means (bank statement, deposit, sponsor's certificate, etc.)

Health insurance if required

Proof of accommodation (dormitory, lease, valid booking, etc.)

Campus France fee payment receipt

Since Campus France handles a major part of file review, you usually can't get a visa appointment without completing the Études en France steps.
