Tarn et Garonne

The Tarn-et-Garonne department is located in southwestern France, in the Occitanie region, with its capital in Montauban, known for the pink brick of its buildings. It is the smallest department in Occitanie and is predominantly agricultural, renowned for its fruit production (especially Chasselas pears) and orchards. Its economy blends agriculture, rural tourism and small industry. The cost of living in the department is low, and the mild southern climate, together with its proximity to Toulouse, make it well suited to a quiet life.

The central areas of Montauban are relatively safe and family-friendly; ordinary caution should be exercised in some of the cheaper outlying neighborhoods. The department's smaller towns are much quieter.

Montauban is an important train station on the Toulouse-Paris line. City and regional buses connect the town and the surrounding villages.
