Rhône
Rhône department is located in southeastern France, in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region, and its capital is Lyon, France's third-largest city and the country's gastronomic capital. The department stretches from the northern plains of Beaujolais (a famous wine region) to Lyon's industrial and commercial suburbs. Its economy is one of the strongest regional economies in France, built on banking, biotechnology, textile and chemical industries, and services. With an excellent transport network, prestigious universities, a UNESCO-listed historic center, and a lower cost of living than Paris, Lyon is one of the most popular cities in France for students and professionals.

Lyon is a major metropolis; different neighborhoods have different levels of safety. The city center, student areas (Villeurbanne, Croix-Rousse, Guillotière) and some suburbs are lively and busy, and as in any large European city you should watch out for pickpockets and crowded public transport. At the same time, many neighborhoods are quiet and family-friendly, and the city as a whole is considered safe.
The TCL transport system includes metro, tram, bus and funicular lines, making it possible to get around almost anywhere without a car. The TER and TGV networks connect Lyon Part-Dieu and Perrache stations to Paris, the Mediterranean coast, Switzerland and Italy.
