Moselle
Moselle is located in northeastern France, in the Grand Est region, on the border with Germany and Luxembourg, with Metz as its capital. The department has a deep industrial history in coal mining and steel, which in recent decades has shifted toward services and new industries (including the relocation of the Centre Pompidou-Metz). Its economy is heavily dependent on cross-border work in Luxembourg and Germany, which offers higher wages. With a good quality of life, a moderate cost of living, and a blended French-German culture, Metz is a distinctive department on France's eastern border.

Metz is a mid-sized city with student, historic, and working-class neighborhoods. The central neighborhoods and those around the station have some of the usual urban congestion and issues, but overall it is acceptable for students. Thionville and Forbach also have a working-class, border-town feel and a quieter life.
Metz has a major train station on the Paris–Luxembourg–Germany line. A bus network and the Mettis rapid-bus system operate within the city. Regional trains connect Moselle to Nancy, Thionville, Luxembourg, and Germany.
