Morbihan

Morbihan is located in the south of the Brittany peninsula, on the Atlantic coast, with Vannes as its capital. The department is world-famous for the prehistoric standing stones of Carnac (one of the largest megalithic complexes in the world) and the beautiful Gulf of Morbihan with its hundreds of small islands. Its economy combines fishing, agriculture, and coastal-historical tourism. Breton culture is very much alive in this department, and its mild oceanic climate, beautiful beaches, and reasonable cost of living make it attractive for a calm life by the sea.

Vannes, Lorient, Auray

The towns of Morbihan are generally calm and well suited to family and student life. During the tourist season (summer), coastal towns become busier; as always in crowded places, keep an eye on your belongings.

Vannes and Lorient both have train stations on the Rennes–Quimper line. Urban bus networks operate in both cities, and regional BreizhGo buses connect towns and coastal areas.
