Isère
The Isère department is in southeastern France, in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region, and its capital is Grenoble, a university city and one of France's hubs for science and technology (microelectronics, nanotechnology). This department is surrounded by high Alpine mountains (Chartreuse, Vercors, Belledonne) and offers abundant skiing and mountaineering opportunities. Isère's economy combines advanced technology, universities, industry and mountain tourism. Thanks to its strong scientific environment and high quality of life amid the mountains, Grenoble is a popular destination for graduate students and international researchers.

Grenoble is a student and multicultural city. Some neighborhoods (for example near the station or certain suburbs) can feel somewhat less safe, but the Saint-Martin-d'Hères university area and the city center are generally suitable for students' daily life. As always, observing ordinary safety precautions is recommended.
The TAG transport system includes trams and buses connecting the city of Grenoble to the Saint-Martin-d'Hères/Gières university area and the suburbs. Tram lines B or C reach the university from almost any point in the city. In addition, the TER and TGV train network connects from Grenoble station to Lyon, Paris and other cities.
