Haute-Corse

Haute-Corse department is located in the northern part of the island of Corsica, and its capital is the port city of Bastia. It includes the Cap Corse peninsula, the eastern coastal plains, and the high central mountains of the island (including Corsica's highest peak, Monte Cinto). Its economy is based on coastal and mountain tourism, agriculture (citrus fruits, olives), and fishing. Its varied landscapes, from sandy beaches to stone mountain villages, together with a distinct Corsican culture, make the department unique; the cost of living rises significantly in summer, and access to continental France is mainly by plane or ferry.
