Finistère

Finistère department is located at the westernmost point of the Brittany peninsula, on the Atlantic coast, and its capital is the port city of Brest. The department's name means "end of the earth," and its deeply indented rocky coastline, numerous islands, and strong Breton maritime culture are among its main features. Finistère's economy combines maritime and military industries (the Brest naval base), fishing, agriculture, and coastal tourism. Its mild but windy oceanic climate, stunning coastlines, and distinct local culture make the department attractive to those drawn to the sea and water sports, though it is far from Paris and central France.

Brest, Quimper, Morlaix

Compared with many large French cities, Brest and Quimper are in relatively good shape in terms of safety. Around the harbors and the city center, especially at night, it is best to be a bit more careful, but the overall atmosphere is friendly and calm for students. As with any city, it is recommended to check statistics and reviews on ville-ideale.fr.

The regional train network connects Brest and Quimper to Rennes and Paris. Within the cities there are also bus and tram-bus networks (for example in Brest). Regional bus lines are also active between towns within the department.
