Calvados

The Calvados department is located in northwestern France, in the Normandy region, along the English Channel, and its center is the city of Caen. It is world-famous for its historical role in the Allied landings during World War II (the Normandy beaches), as well as its dairy industry (Camembert cheese, Calvados apple brandy). Its economy combines agriculture, livestock farming, historical tourism, and maritime industries. A mild oceanic climate, beautiful beaches, and a moderate cost of living make it suitable for family life and student life (University of Caen).
