Bouches-du-Rhône

The Bouches-du-Rhône department is located in southern France, on the Mediterranean coast at the mouth of the Rhône river, and its center is Marseille, France's second-largest city and its most important commercial port. The department combines large, lively cities (Marseille, Aix-en-Provence) with industrial-port areas and the unspoiled nature of the Camargue Nature Park (the Rhône delta). Its economy is diverse, including maritime trade, industry, tourism, and prestigious universities (Aix-Marseille University). The cost of living, particularly in Marseille, is lower than in Paris, and the sunny Mediterranean climate combined with high cultural diversity has made it a popular destination for international students, including Iranians.

Marseille, Aix-en-Provence, Arles

Marseille is a large city with very diverse neighborhoods; some areas are safe and student-friendly, while some outlying areas are less safe. Aix-en-Provence and Arles are generally calmer and safer.

Transport includes the metro, tram, and bus in Marseille (the RTM network), bus and train in Aix, and the TER network toward Nice, Montpellier, and Paris.
