Alpes de Haute Provence

The Alpes-de-Haute-Provence department is located in southeastern France, in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region, and its center is Digne-les-Bains. With Alpine mountains to the east and sunny Provençal plateaus to the west, it is one of the least populated departments in France, and its economy relies mainly on nature tourism, agriculture (especially lavender cultivation on the Valensole plateau), and mountain farming. The Verdon Gorge, the largest natural canyon in Europe, is located in this department, making it a popular destination for nature tourism and water sports. Life in the department is calm and inexpensive, but due to its low population, urban amenities and employment opportunities are more limited than in larger departments.
